A Welcome from the Office of Campus Life
To the Class of 2018,
Congratulations on deciding to come to Colby. You have made a terrific decision. The first of many decisions, no doubt. Decisions—easy, difficult, daily, once-in-a-lifetime, and lots of others—will be a regular and recurring feature of your time at Colby.
Some of your next decisions will have to do with courses, COOT, and roommates. These aren’t decisions about right or wrong; rather they are about why and what matters to you. So, take a breath, pause, and consider what you want your college experience to be like and how you can make it so. Whatever your answers, make sure they are your own. Jump into your experience and make it great. Say yes more often than you say no. Say hello to those people you come across and introduce yourself to those who say hello back, pause, or look like they could use a pickup. Don’t worry about what other people are thinking. Try something new. Spend time with good people. Make Colby better.
College is your time to experiment, to try new things, and to learn about yourself. You should laugh, think, feel challenged, and flex your muscles every day. If you don’t, then you should change your routine. As you mix it up and explore this place and yourself, you will meet great successes and face inevitable challenges. Know that you are never alone. While this is your experience, there are many of us here to help you along the way.
We look forward to seeing you in August.
