Transportation

  • We want to put the Jitney on a loop into central points in town from Pulver and put the Jitney on call after 7 p.m., i.e. students can go where they want in town or on campus.
  • We will set up an airport shuttle that runs throughout the day by renting zip cars. Instead of a bus that leaves only once throughout the day, this option gives students more options and will be relatively inexpensive, around $15 dollars. Until this can happen, we will rent buses to transport students to and from the airport on the two busiest travel days of the year, traveling to and from at different points in the day.
  • We want to bring Zip Cars to campus, much like Bates, so that students could reserve them to go into town or on a trip with a club. We will also work to get a bicycle co-op on campus.

Improving The Social Environment

  • We will get rid of SGA's debt, which has cut funding to all clubs and activities. We will meet with administrators and demand that it be restored, like done with SPB. This is only hurting students for the mistakes of a few.
  • We want to open up communications between SGA and various clubs and organizations. We will set up a monthly meeting with all bigger organizations and clubs, like the Goldfarb Center, PCB, COC, Colby-Waterville Alliance, Student Athletics Advisory Committee, Head Residents and SPB. We will also set up a meeting each semester with all club leaders, us and the SGA Treasurer to ask what we can do for them.
  • We want to promote Colby sports by publicizing the games in dorms and dining halls and we will work with Campus Life to provide buses to close away games. We will also work with Athletics to allow club and I-Play athletes access to facilities and trainers and get some cardio equipment in a central location on campus.
  • We will sponsor an event in Pulver Pavilion with various groups, from a cappella, to dancers, to drummers early in the semester to showcase Colby's talent and get more people involved on campus.
  • We will continue to work on Colby-Waterville relations by supporting events like Burst the Bubble week and Hill in the Ville. We will also sponsor a Get-to-Know Waterville Day for First Years during orientation.
  • We will work with various groups, like HRs, COOT leaders, sports captains and Security to promote Party Right, which will promote safer drinking habits. We want this program to start as soon as freshmen arrive on campus.

Changes To SGA

  • We want SGA to be visible, accessible and interacting as much as possible with students. We will appoint only the most experienced people to the Executive Board and appoint dorm presidents that will actually do the job.
  • We will take money from our stipends and use it to sponsor events for class reps, clubs and dorm presidents.
  • We will assign each member of the Executive Board one specific project to make sure nothing in our platform is forgotten - these members will have specific experience in these areas.
  • We will get a bi-weekly SGA column in the Echo, send out a monthly report to the student body, hold office hours every day of the week at night, and hold monthly office hours in Pulver.

Other Projects

  • We will address the problems with housing by working with administrators to ensure that Seniors get the best rooms, First Years do not get the shaft and make sure of some mix of classes within dorms. We would also urge trustees to push up the renovation of Bobs. We will work with members of SGA, the Colby community and administrators by forming a housing committee to look at all aspects of housing at Colby and make recommendations to Campus Life.
  • We will instantly push the administration to make Colby's admissions process need-blind to allow prospective students equal opportunity. We will form a student committee to reevaluate all aspects of ColbyÕs academics, from distribution requirements to majors.
