On November 5, 2008 residents of Ward 6 re-elected me to represent them on the City Council. As a Councilor I have listened carefully when my constituents called me or sent me email and I have attempted to do what is best for them and for the City. Clearly continuing to reduce the tax burden on Waterville residents is a high priority as is working to attract new businesses to our City. The condition of our streets and other things that affect the quality of life in this City are important to all of us who live here. Please be assured that I will continue to serve the community and residents of Ward 6 to the best of my ability by dealing with issues not only when they arise but before they arise. Some examples of my specific activities since joining the Council have been helping to re-write the City's ordinances, serving on the City's Facilities and Information Technology Committees, and representing the Council on the search for a Fire Chief and on the Gilman Street School proposals. I came to Waterville in 1969 to accept a faculty appointment at Colby College, a position that I held until my retirement in 2002. I am a graduate of Winthrop High School, the University of Maine at Orono and Bangor Theological Seminary. I left Maine to earn a doctorate at Columbia University and was delighted to be able to return to Maine after earning that degree. Over the years I have been involved in community and public service in many ways, each of which has given me contact with a different part of our City. This is a partial list of these activities:
