COLBY COLLEGE TITLE IX GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

It is the policy of Colby College not to discriminate on the basis of sex in its educational programs, activities, or employment as required by Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendments. As a student at Colby College, you are protected from sex discrimination in the following areas:

You may not be discriminated against on the basis of sex in:

  • Admission
  • Access to course enrollment
  • Access to facilities
  • Counseling
  • Competitive athletics
  • Graduation requirements
  • Student rules, regulations, and benefits
  • Treatment as a married and/or pregnant student
  • Housing, Financial Aid, or Health Services
  • Most other aid benefits or services

If you believe you have been discriminated against on the basis of sex, you may make a claim that your rights have been denied. This claim or grievance may be filed with Colby's Title IX Coordinator, Joan Sanzenbacher, or Sr. Associate Dean of Students Paul Johnston.

If you choose to file a grievance, you will be asked to write down the actions, policies, or practices which you believe are discriminatory. You may obtain help from Joan Sanzenbacher, who can be reached by phone at 859-4733. If you would prefer, you may obtain help from Paul Johnston. who can be reached by phone at 859-4261. You will be asked to meet with those persons who would be involved in correcting the policies, practices, or programs that you believe are discriminatory. If there is agreement that you were discriminated against, corrective action will be taken to restore your rights.

You may file a complaint of illegal discrimination with the Office for Civil Rights, ED, Washington, D.C., at the same time as you file the grievance, during or after the use of the grievance process, or without using the grievance process.
