HEALTH CENTER

Services of the Health Center are available to all employees who are covered under the Colby College Health Plan. Most services are offered without charge, including physical therapy, psychological counseling, and treatment of acute illness or injury. The services are not intended, however, for long-term illness or as a substitute for primary care by personal physicians. Except in cases of emergency, arrangements are made by appointment only during the academic year from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, when classes are in session.

Substance Abuse Counseling

Colby has an ongoing drug/alcohol awareness program for its employees as well as its students. Educational literature is available at the Health Center, and each year there are a number of educational programs, all of which are open to employees. These programs are advertised on bulletin boards and in the weekly calendar.

Employees who abuse drugs/alcohol and who voluntarily seek rehabilitation may receive confidential guidance and assistance from their supervisor, Personnel Services, and the professional staff at the Health Center. Treatment, when necessary, is available from local providers. Whenever the job performance or the health and safety of an employee or others may be endangered by alcohol/drug abuse, the College physician, in consultation with the supervisor, Personnel Services, and other health care professionals, may require that an employee be evaluated and, when deemed necessary by the College, submit to treatment. Successful completion of a rehabilitation program may be held as a condition of continued employment.

Nothing stated in this section, however, prevents the College from terminating employment in the event of unsatisfactory job performance or misconduct.
