Research Projects

Spectroscopic investigations of novel materials, including fullerene / polymer composites and microstructures that exhibit unique photo-physical properties and low-dimensional quantum spin systems including both organic and inorganic spin gap compounds. Far infrared and optical techniques used to study vibrational and electronic properties, with particular interest in symmetry-breaking effects, temperature-induced phase transitions, and magnetic field-induced changes in optical properties. Room temperature and temperature-dependent studies at Colby supplemented by research at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, FL to investigate effects of magnetic fields.
