The inauguration of the 19th president of Colby College, William D. Adams, will take place on Saturday, October 21. There were only six presidential inaugurations at Colby during the 1900s, and Adams's inauguration will be the first since 1979. Presidents Emeriti William R. Cotter and Robert E.L. Strider will take part in the installation ceremony. The formal installation ceremony begins at 3 p.m. in the Alfond Athletic Center. The installation and other events on October 20 and 21 to celebrate the inauguration are open to the public. Students, faculty and staff have been planning the weekend festivities. Inaugural activities begin on Friday evening and will showcase Colby talent in a block-party format using the theme, "The Colby Difference." Events and prize drawings begin at 7:30 p.m. in three venues: Dana Dining Room, Foss Dining Room and in the Page Commons Room in Cotter Union. Each venue will feature multiple programs and a variety of dessert options. There will be three contests, a "GPS Treasure Hunt," an art contest titled "Representations of Colby in Art" and a web design contest. The evening will conclude with fireworks visible from the steps of the library beginning at 10:30 p.m. followed by a dance with a DJ behind Roberts Union.
