Minimum requirements for the Psychology Major with a Neuroscience Concentration

 

Beginning with the class of 2009, a new psychology curriculum is in effect (see the online Colby Catalogue for the requirements for the class of 2008).

 

Basic Knowledge

-  PS111 (Introduction to Psychology)<>

-  PS233 (Biological Basis of Behavior)

  At least two courses from:

-  PS253 (Social)

- PS255 (Child Development) or

PS256 (Adolescent and Adult Development)

- PS258 (Cultural Psychology)

 

At least two courses from:

- PS232 (Cognitive)

- PS254 (Personality and Psychopathology)

- PS272 (Sensation and Perception)

 

In Biology:

-  BI 163 and 164

-  BI 274 and 274L

At least one Biology course from:

- BI225/297, 232, 276, 279, 312, 315, 373, 374

 

Methodological and Statistical Skills

- PS214 (Research Methods and Statistics in

Psychology I)and a PS214 lab

- PS215 (Research Methods and Statistics in

Psychology II) and a PS215 lab

Note: PS214 is offered in the fall, PS215 in the spring.  It is very important for Psychology majors to take these courses in their sophomore year.

 

Advanced Knowledge and Collaborative Research

- PS374 (Psychology and Neuroscience)

- One pair of seminar/collaborative research courses, in which basic knowledge is built upon in the seminar, and original team collaborative research is designed and carried-out in the collaborative research course.  Results are presented at the department poster session in the semester the courses are taken, and at the Colby Undergraduate Research Symposium in the spring.


-  PS420 (Fall or Spring): Senior Integrative Seminar
