The American Psychological Association Presents This Presidential Citation To
Diane Skowbo Winn, PhD
Whereas, you have established yourself as a well-published psychological scientist through your work on enduring contingent visual after-effects, such as the McCollough phenomenon; and
Whereas, you have had a long and successful career teaching undergraduate psychology students at Colby College; and
Whereas, you have gone on to establish Avian Haven in Freedom, Maine, as a non-profit wild bird rehabilitation center dedicated to returning injured and orphaned wild birds to natural roles in the wild; and
Whereas, in so doing you have integrated a sophisticated knowledge of behavioral science, avian medicine, ecology, geography, culture, and education; and
Whereas, you teach others while caring for more than 20,000 orphaned and injured birds from more than 100 species from hummingbirds to bald eagles over more than 20 years; and
Whereas, you have further demonstrated scientific expertise in topics as diverse as the nutrituional value of insects, avian flight conditioning, nestling survival, and nutirutional formula for baby birds, thereby establishing yourself as a rare bird indeed.
Now, therefore, the American Psychological Association takes proud note of your distinguished career, integrating teaching, behavioral science, and passionately humane care of wild creatures in need, by awarding this presidential citation non-contingently and with enduring after-effects.
