The Expanded Wireless Network
We in ITS are pleased to report that the wireless network resource is now available  in the Cotter Union (The Spa, Fish Bowl and Page Commons), The LRC-Language Resource Center (4th Floor of Lovejoy), and in Miller Library (primarily accessible on the first floor in the student study area and also on the ground floor in the "Street"). Configuration information for Windows XP and Macintosh OS-X may be found at this web site: http://www.colby.edu/info.tech/wireless/

Microsoft Windows security vulnerabilities have been posted for many months, each week seems to bring a new threat to personal computer security. The software updates and patches necessary to protect colby owned machines from this latest threat are implemented as appropriate from the server - call 4222 only if you get a warning on your desktop. ITS Director, Ray Phillips, has made recommendations on how to secure your personal computer from attacks and from being used to attack other computers on the Internet. Please read the notice for details

Student computers are particularly vulnerable - ITS strongly urges students to implement the new critical updates from the Microsoft web site as soon as possible. Please read the notice for details on What Windows (and Mac) Computer Owners MUST DO to protect their computers. A reminder - maintain your antivirus software subscription. Keep up with the latest student advice at this site.
