choose Preferences:
Under
Immediate Mode, click on "Virus Action." Make sure "Disinfect
Files" and "Confirm Disinfection" are checked.
Under
Central Updates, click on "Update Options"- make sure "Enable
Updates" is checked. The white box under the "select Folder" button
shows the default path for updates-it should start with "General
Server:Mac Software:Software" as shown below:
The
full path is - Mac Software:Software for Use at Colby:Virus Detection:Sophos
Anti-Virus
Close
the SAV Preferences window. In the Sophos Anti-Virus window, make
sure your hard drive appears, with a small green "star" icon next
to it.(If it has a dim gray icon, click on the hard drive icon to
select it.) Now run an immediate virus check by clicking
on the green triangular Start button:
That's
it! You're done! You've done one "sweep", giving Sophos a baseline
picture of your system-Sophos will run automatically from now on,
constantly watching your system for viruses and disinfecting as
needed.
Important
Operational Information:
***Sophos
looks to the General Server to keep its virus definition files up
to date- you should connect
to the General Server at least once a week so Sophos can update
itself!
****
**If
Sophos detects a virus it might display a message telling you to
"contact the system administrator immediately." Don't
be alarmed. This is a default message- it's not referring to anyone
in particular! Simply notify the Support Center at x3888 or send
email to helpdesk@colby.edu.
