In recent years, the issue of sexual violence on college and university campuses has received increasing attention from the federal government, national media outlets, and concerned students across the country. Colby College continues to show its commitment to creating a campus climate in which sexual respect is the norm and all students feel safe to pursue their academic and extra-curricular goals. Likewise, we are committed to ensuring that our students who have been affected by sexual violence are aware of the College’s reporting and support resources and feel empowered to access them.
Central to Colby’s effort to create a respectful and knowledgeable campus is our mandatory sexual misconduct prevention programming for first-year and second-year students. This programming will engage you with this important topic as you adjust to your new community. The mandatory sexual misconduct prevention programming for Global Entry Semester students consists of a two-session interactive sexual misconduct prevention training to be completed during January.
Each one-hour session in this training sequence is led by a team of trained sexual violence prevention peer educators. These peer-led training sessions will give you a comprehensive understanding of Colby’s sexual misconduct policies and procedures and introduce you to the basic skills necessary to safely intervene in incidents of sexual misconduct before they escalate. The training will also give you the tools to effectively support a friend who may have experienced sexual misconduct.
These sessions will be offered at multiple times during January. They are designed to be small and scheduled to accommodate a range of academic and cocurricular schedules.
