Under the direction of a K-6 classroom teacher tutors will work with individuals and/or small groups of students to assist with reading, writing, comprehension skills and/or mathematical skills development. Activities might include listening to students read aloud, assisting students with answering comprehension questions and writing journal responses, editing student writing, reading to children, testing word recognition and comprehension, and/or testing and developing mathematical skills and assisting with related classroom games or projects.
Experience and interest in working with children ages 6-12. Requirements include strong communication skills, creativity, personal initiative, energy, and dependability. Must be willing to participate in the training program with cooperating teacher and work off-campus at local schools (transportation will be provided). Must qualify for Federal work-study.
