SPB Welcomes New Members
After receiving 29 applications to join the club this fall, the Student Programming Board is thrilled to have accepted 13 enthusiastic new members, most of whom are first year students. The new members arrive at SPB's first full general board meeting of the year (Monday, September 24) with diverse programming experiences, creative ideas, and a desire to push Colby College's social scene to new levels. Members will be joining each of SPB's six committees. All general board meetings are open to all members of the student body.

Bunkerboat Takes the Heat
On Sunday 44 students competed in the annual Johnson Pond Regatta, while hundreds of their friends cheered them on. Every fall, SPB's Special Events Committee invites the campus to build boats out of non-conventional materials and race on Johnson Pond. This highly anticipated event was enjoyed by both spectators who ate lunch provided by a Dining Services barbeque, and participants who took advantage of the one day each year where swimming in the Pond, an offense which typically warrants a $1000 fine from security, is allowed. The winning team, Bunkerboat, comprised of seniors Luke LaViolet, John Scott, Tom Treat, and Brian Putnam, won the $400 first place prize by finishing in 2 minutes and 37 seconds. The second place team, the Sarahnauts took home a $100 prize for completing the course in 3 minutes and 13 seconds.
