The Colby-Hume Center

SUMMER IN MAINE

PROGRAMS

Colby College owns a 10-acre parcel of land, including some 450 feet of lakefront, seven miles from the campus on the east shore of Messalonskee Lake (also known as Snow Pond) in nearby Sidney. The property was given to Colby in 1991 by Alan and Dorothy Hume, who reside there in a private home. Facilities available for general College use include a picnic area with charcoal cooking grilles, a small beach for swimming, and two small bath/changing houses with toilets. There is also a large workshop barn, a cottage used by Colby faculty and staff, and a boathouse used by the College crew team to store its rowing shells.

Uses

The property, which may be used for cookouts and swimming, is for the use of Colby faculty and staff as well as registrants in Colby's various summer and special programs. Individual and family users do not need to make special arrangements to use the property during daylight hours. Colby groups of up to 75 persons may inquire about making arrangements to use the facilities by contacting the Office of Special Programs (207 859-4730). Inquiries should be directed to the Office of Special Programs.

Active and retired faculty and staff are encouraged to use the woodshop and forge. Arrangements should be made directly with Dr. Hume (207 465-7316).
