About Colby College |
|
Colby College, an independent, highly selective four-year liberal arts college, is situated in the center of Maine, minutes from a chain of inland lakes, an hour from the beautiful Maine coastline, and two hours from wilderness mountains. Chartered in 1813, Colby is the 12th-oldest college in New England. Colby has been host to educational programs for the medical and allied health professions since 1945 and is the only private liberal arts college in the nation accredited to offer Category 1 credit of the Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. Each summer, our courses attract registrants from all across the country, and this diverse geographic representation enhances the exchange of ideas that course participants especially value. Our friendly staff, accessible faculty, and timely topics make each program at Colby a quality experience. At Colby, visitors may take advantage of our fitness center, sauna, indoor pool, squash courts, outdoor tennis courts, and an all-weather eight-lane track. We have miles of walking and cross-country running trails that wind through the wooded areas of our 714-acre campus. The Colby College Museum of Art is the largest art museum in Maine and features early American Art. The facilities at Colby's lakeside property, the Colby-Hume Center on nearby Snow Pond (Messalonskee Lake), offer picnic areas, swimming, a bathhouse, a boat launch, and a croquet court. For a closer look at the campus, please visit the campus map. See Colby at a Glance for more information about the College. There are many off-campus activities awaiting the visitor to Colby, too. Colby College admits registrants to any program without regard to race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, age, sex, or handicapped status. Persons needing special assistance should contact the Special Programs office. |
