When Colby's alumni and parents reviewed an early draft of the College's strategic plan back in 1990, one message came through loud and clear: Colby has always been a school of opportunity--make sure it remains affordable to bright young men and women who can do the work, regardless of their family's means. That's why the largest single objective of The Campaign for Colby, $30 million, was designated for endowed scholarships. And that's why the Colby family responded so enthusiastically, exceeding that goal and raising more than $35 million for endowed financial aid.Roughly two of every three Colby students receives some sort of help--work-study, loans, grants, or a combination of all three. Financial aid is the foundation on which we build Colby's future. With adequate scholarship support, we can recruit the best, the brightest, and the most deserving students in the country. The many named scholarships created during The Campaign represent a vote of confidence in our College and our country by the many generous alumni, parents, friends, and foundations who helped The Campaign for Colby surpass its financial aid goal. All Colby scholarships are awarded on the basis of need. |
