Next! A Cabaret from the Front Lines
Conceived and Directed by Jonathan Mastro
March 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and March 13 at 2 p.m.
Strider Theater
You don't need to wave a French flag on a barricade while singing at the top of your lungs to be a musical revolutionary. Next! A Cabaret From the Front Lines brings out the dangerous side of musical theater, taking the most thought-provoking work from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Steven Sondheim, Jacques Brel, and contemporary composers and lyricists out of the context of their original musicals and redeploying them in an original cabaret. Individually, these songs are powerful, striking, memorable. Beside each other, they're comrades-in-arms, fighting social and political battles with the unconventional weapons of song and dance. Who would have thought a musical about strippers (Gypsy) could be feminist, or a World War II classic (South Pacific) could attack racism?
Next! will show you how.
