On April 21st, fifteen students divided into three teams of five ventured to Mt. Washington, NH to compete in the annual Tuckerman Inferno as a memorial to Colby student Derrik Flahive.  Derrik was an incredible person and a great friend. Tragically he passed away last semester while studying abroad in Chile. You can read more about Derrik’s incredible life at http://derrikflahivelivesforever.org/

The Tuckerman Inferno is an annual pentathlon that takes place on Mt. Washington and in the Mt. Washington valley. The event consists of an 8.3-mile run, 6-mile kayak, 18-mile bike, 3.5-mile hike, then a sprint to the top of Tuckerman Ravine followed by a giant slalom ski race to the base of the bowl. The race is done in relay style with one member of each team doing a certain leg. All teams finished the race and had a fantastic time doing it.

In the end this event raised over $2500 for Derrik Flahive’s charity, Sin Represas. It was a great way to commemorate Derrik’s phenomenal life. A special thanks to President Bro Adams and SGA for making everything possible. We couldn’t have done it without them.
