Getting Access to Sites

Only officially approved groups may have Web space on Colby¹s server. Only official clubs, organizations, and departments may have directories off of the "www.colby.edu/" address.

General Qualifications for Web Space:
Organizations/groups that are part of departments should be stored within that department.
For example: http://www.colby.edu/biology/vballteam/

Student clubs and organizations must be recognized by Student Activities and follow their guidelines for being an official group. College faculty organizations must be approved by the Dean of Faculty.

Organizations that faculty and staff members belong to that deal directly with their profession should be stored in their professional directories (see Personal/Professional Sites). Faculty and staff are encouraged to register a domain name for these organizations to maintain an identity for the organization that is outside of Colby. Colby can then host the site. Colby organizations/groups may submit a request for a directory and the Web management team will designate an appropriate location.

Personal/Professional Pages
Faculty, staff, and students have access to personal accounts for Web sites. The size limit is 10 Megabytes. Faculty and staff also have access to professional directories. These directories should be used for coursework pages, faculty research items, and other professionally-related pages. Faculty should not store professional or personal items in a department directory.
