Typeface: Colby HTML Guidelines

Comment tags
Comment tags are the way for you to convey to others what is contained in different areas of an HTML page. They also are used to hold important server commands or special programming

You should use tags to comment the Colby navigation bar as well as where your content begins. In general, use comments in areas where you feel an explanation is necessary to someone not familiar with the page so that maintenance is easier.

Comments are noted by using:
<!-- at the beginning of the comment
--> at the end of the comment

Forms
Design should be consistent from form to form. Questions should always be on the left and field inputs on the right. Align your form around a center line so that the questions are flush right and the field input types are flush left.

Present your lists the same way each time. For example if radio buttons are listed vertically, use that same method for each radio button group.

If your form is longer than one page, a "Next" button should be used (not "Continue") and should be on the right hand side of the page. A "Previous" button should be on the left. "Reset Fields" should be in the center or left of the "Submit" button with ample room between the two if the form is only one page.

Allow enough character space for information to be viewed in its entirety.

In order for your form to be sent, the "Submit" type has to go somewhere. Refer to tutorials on forms and how to have your form sent back to you as formatted e-mail.

For more information, go to ITS's form examples or contact Web Manager.
