Fugikawa joins American Studies and WGSS faculty

In September 2018, Colby welcomed Laura Sachiko Fugikawa as assistant professor of American Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Professor Fugikawa teaches introductory courses in these programs as well as courses on gender and film and on queer identity and politics. Their book manuscript, Displacements: The Cultural Politics of Relocation, is an examination of the mid-twentieth century government-sponsored racial and spatial practices directed at Native Americans and Japanese Americans. Their articles include “‘To Get Here?’: Vulnerabilities and Biopolitics in Courtney Hunt’s Frozen River” in Critical Ethnic Studies Journal, and “Shifting the Gaze: Gender and Resilience in The Exiles” in American Quarterly.
