Eitan Shalom Green Research Award
The Award
The Eitan Shalom Green Anthropology Honors Research Award is designed to support field research by one or more students during JanPlan or the summer toward an anthropology honors thesis. It may be used for travel, accommodations, and other expenses related to research.
This award is named after former anthropology student Eitan Shalom Green, who tragically passed away in 2014 at the age of 28.
2022 Summer Research Award
The Eitan Shalom Green Anthropology Summer Research Award is designed to support field research for one or more rising seniors (class of 2023) as part of a (possible) senior-year anthropology honors thesis. It may be used for travel, accommodations and other expenses related to research. Requests may be for any amount; the maximum award available is $2000. The application deadline is Friday, April 15th, 2022 and an award announcement will be made soon thereafter.
Application Guidelines (see submission link below)
The grant application should consist of a research proposal, a budget, and a current resume. The research proposal should be 3-4 pages long and should include a clearly stated research goal, a description of the research to be undertaken and your preparation to do it, an explanation of how the research will contribute to an honors thesis, and a statement about the significance of this research to anthropology. The budget should provide a clear articulation of specific costs for the project. Submit all materials via the online form below.
Since the research award is limited, students with higher cost projects should also consider applying for additional sources of funding, such as the Walker Grant (for LAS students), the All College Fund for Special Student Projects through the Dean of Faculty’s office, and grants available through DavisConnects. Please note that the deadline for DavisConnects funding is earlier (March 14, 2022). Please consult your advisor in the major to consider your different options.
Upon completion of the research, the awardee must submit to the department and the donor a short report summarizing the research and its value for the thesis and must agree to acknowledge receipt of this award in the honors thesis.
The Eitan Shalom Green Anthropology Honors Research Award is made possible by a generous gift in honor of Eitan Shalom Green ‘09, by his family. Eitan Shalom Green graduated from Colby with an anthropology degree with honors after receiving the anthropology student prize his senior year. He perished in an avalanche while leading a mountaineering expedition on Mt. Rainier in May 2014. The research award is in memory of his love of anthropology and his creative spirit.
