Artist
Artist Jody Pinto will deliver a slide talk about her work, Wednesday April 2, 2003 at Colby College in Bixler Building Room 154 at 4:30 p.m.
Ms. Pinto lives and works in New York City. Her monumental public works, which are concerned with environmental design, are collaborations between artists, architects, landscape architects, and engineers. Her works question the nature of the built environment and our role, both as creators and users of the environment. She has designed a number of parks, both urban and rural. Her collaboration with federal, state and local agencies force us to consider the issue of the relationship between public policy and aesthetic expression.
A few of her recently completed public works include “Light Cylinders” in Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, Florida at the International Airport Garage expansion, “Bone Sculpture Garden” at Pasadena City College in California and ”B.I.G.”(Beach Improvement Group Project) Santa Monica, California. The sculpture garden at Pasadena City College was a project that concluded the school’s $100 million master plan renovation. The concept creates a staging ground for contemporary sculpture, installation, performance and collaboration. Night lighting outlines the garden’s forms and path system to reveal a galaxy framed by surrounding buildings.
Jody Pinto has received many awards, including a Federal Design Achievement Award, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as from the Councils on the Arts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Jody Pinto’s lecture, which is sponsored by the Colby College Department of Art and the Arts Lecture Fund, is open to the public without charge.
