Assignment Activities

Moodle provides the assignment activity which offers several ways to track and collect student work.

Activities for Communication and Collaboration

Chat allows course members to hold real-time, text-based conversations with course members. Multiple chat rooms can be set up for the same course. Chat rooms may also be used for office hours. Read more about chat or watch a video.

Database activity allows the teacher and/or students to build, display, and search a bank of records. The instructor designs the format and structure of these entries which can include images, files, URLs, numbers, text, etc. Learn more about the Moodle Database activity.

Instructors and students can communicate and collaborate using Forums. Instructors can create topics or, depending on the Forum type, allow students to originate topics, to which course members can “post” a reply.  Visit this blog post for more resources.

The Glossary activity allows users to create a list of definitions, much like a dictionary. Participants can search or browse the Glossary. Learn more about the Glossary Moodle activity.

Student Folder

Assessments and Surveys

Moodle quizzes are comprised of a Quiz activity that contains one or more questions from your course’s Question bank. The Quiz activity lets you administer a wide range of question-types within a specific layout and order, provide different kinds of feedback based on how a student performed on the quiz, and control how students access the quiz. Visit the AcITS Moodle post on using Moodle Quiz.

Choice activity allows you to post a question and specify multiple responses as possible answers. Each of your students can then pick one of the given choices. See Moodle documentation for more information or watch a video.

Feedback activity allows you to create and conduct surveys to collect feedback. See Moodle documentation for more information or watch a video.

Kaltura Video Quiz

Integrates with Colby’s new video content management system. Here’s a short video tutorial to get you started.
