INFORMATION SECURITY ANALYST

Reporting to the director of enterprise services and information security officer (ISO) in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), the information security analyst’s primary responsibilities include monitoring, analyzing, detecting, and maintaining the overall security of the College’s data, systems, and networks. The information security analyst assists in the planning, implementation, and administration of the systems, technologies, policies, and procedures that ensure the integrity and reliability of data and information systems across the College. Working closely with the ISO, ITS staff, and partners across the College, the information security analyst is involved with operational analysis, regulatory posture, incident response, information security training, and cybersecurity awareness efforts. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Regular review and synthesis of information system event logs and security event analysis
  • Monitoring of system and network vulnerabilities; track, assess, and mitigate threats as necessary to ensure that systems maintain a standard security baseline
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor information security infrastructure and technologies - SIEM, firewalls, endpoint protection, and encryption status
  • Develop and maintain information security training and awareness programs
  • Communicate data risk and assurance matters within ITS and other departments as necessary
  • Ensure that key systems are regularly risk assessed, maintained, and improved for compliance purposes
  • Research, analyze, and document information security incidents
  • Advise and assist with IT and College initiatives and policies as they relate to information security technology, practice, and policy
  • Recommend changes to the IT security infrastructure and/or configuration based on industry best practices and observed conditions
  • Maintain an understanding of the current cyber security strategies and practices
  • Provide reports for security incidents and solutions as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience; computer science or related degree preferred
  • Three years of experience in enterprise information security; experience at an institution of higher education preferred
  • Relevant information security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) preferred
  • Demonstrable knowledge of information systems security regulatory framework, compliance standards, and best practices
  • Understanding of enterprise IT technologies and services, including network protocols, firewalls, and system architectures, especially as they relate to security
  • Familiarity with common regulatory and compliance frameworks as applied to higher education (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI-DSS) is preferred
  • Expertise with operation of enterprise IT security technologies - SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti-virus, media encryption, etc. is preferred
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously; coordinating resources and ensuring scheduled goals are met
  • Strong trouble shooting skills including research and analytical abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with a high level of motivation and initiative
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
  • Effective oral communication skills in various contexts with a commitment to team participation, information sharing and mutual/shared support
  • Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has frequent and direct contact with ITS peers and colleagues, administrative and academic personnel, and third parties such as vendor and consulting contacts.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
