RESERVE SHUTTLE DRIVER

Office of Security

Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Exempt, Hourly, Staff Appointment

The reserve shuttle driver will provide van rides on a determined schedule between Colby College and Downtown Waterville providing some security services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The reserve shuttle driver will be expected to respond to calls for service in a timely and professional manner to the off-campus residence hall, support and enforce College policies, and work effectively as a member of the security staff and as a member of a diverse community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Drive shuttle bus between Colby College and Downtown Waterville on a strict schedule
  • Respond to fire and security alarms at the off-campus residence hall
  • Provide lockout services for the off-campus residence hall
  • Maintain an alertness for suspicious activities during shift
  • Deal with incidents as necessary at the off-campus residence hall
  • Provide informational assistance and promote good public relations
  • Complete necessary reports and paperwork
  • Participate in on-the-job training
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions
  • Pickup and deliver mail twice a day to and from off campus facilities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; professional coursework or post-secondary education a plus
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with P (Passenger Bus Vehicle) endorsement required and must meet Colby’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
  • Additional training and certifications in First Aid and CPR and First Responders Training preferred
  • Well-developed public relations skills; able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment; work with members of a diverse community; and utilize diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situations
  • Effectively operate a variety of equipment including portable/mobile radios and computers
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to complete clear, concise, and accurate logs, reports, and other documentation
  • Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
This position has significant interactions with students, faculty, staff, and other outside constituencies.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
General campus environment. Position involves frequent movement. Employee must be able to sit and drive for long periods of time. Some lifting, sitting, and computer use possible.
