Borthwick wins Canada Council for the Arts Project Grant
In spring 2015, Assistant professor Bradley Borthwick received a Project Grant to Professionals in the Visual Arts from the Canada Council for the Arts. This federally funded grant supports research, travel, studio production, and film documentation for a new body of work. Borthwick’s project, titled Flodden (Mote of Locherwart), involves the making of an English longbow with its complement of 720 arrows, and the loosening of those arrows into the iconic landscape that frames Borthwick Castle in Midlothian, Scotland. Documented on film, this action explores the artist’s relationship to his ancestral home and raises questions about identity and place.
