“Printmaking on Handmade Paper”
Bookmaker and Printmaker Claire Van Vliet will present a slide lecture entitled “Printmaking on Handmade Paper” on April 12 at 4:30 pm in room 154 of the Bixer Art and Music Building at Colby College.
Claire Van Vliet earned her BA degree from San Diego State University and her MFA degree from Claremont Graduate School. After doing post-graduate work in Oberursel/Taunus Germany and at the Pickering Press in Maple Shade, New Jersey, she taught at the Philadelphia College of Art, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Since settling in Vermont, Van Vliet’s main concern has been with Janus Press, a handmade book, pamphlet and broadside publisher she founded.
Van Vliet has been an Artist in Residence throughout America, Canada, Great Britain, and New Zealand. Included in her many exhibitions and awards is the awarding to Van Vliet in 1989, the prestigious John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship Award.
Van Vliet’s talk, which is sponsored by the Colby College Art Department and supported by funds from the Arts Lecture Fund, is open to the public without charge.
