On October 9-11, 2014, Tanya Sheehan (Associate Professor of Art) and Lauren Lessing (Mirken Curator of Education, Colby College Museum of Art) will each deliver papers at the Third Biennial Association of Historians of American Art Symposium held in Philadelphia. Lessing’s talk is titled, “Flat-Breasted Maidens: Winslow Homer’s Depictions of Natural Girlhood in the 1870s.” Sheehan’s talk, “Playing the Race Card: Thomas Le Clear’s High, Jack, Game,” examines a circa 1865 American genre painting currently on view at the Colby College Museum of Art.
