Sheehan named William R. Kenan, Jr. Associate Professor of Art
Tanya Sheehan, an accomplished scholar of American art and visual culture from the nineteenth century to the present, has been named the William R. Kenan Jr. Associate Professor of Art. Professor Sheehan is an expert in the history of photography and the representation of race in American art. She is the author or editor of four books and many articles, and since 2015, she has served as editor of the Archives of American Art Journal, a publication of the Smithsonian Institution. Professor Sheehan’s ability to make connections between art and social issues inspires students to look at the world in new ways. She joined the Colby faculty in 2013, following appointments to the faculty at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and Columbia University. She earned a Ph.D. from Brown University and a B.A. from Georgetown University.
