Sheehan speaks in Zurich on photography and race

On October 30, 2015, Tanya Sheehan (Associate Professor and Chair of Art) will speak at the international symposium, The Colors of Photography, held in honor of Dr. h.c. Kaspar M. Fleischmann at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. The symposium is dedicated to achieving a deeper understanding of color in the field of photography while also considering black and white as both an aesthetic and metaphor in the history of photography. The program includes talks by organizer Bettina Gockel, Deborah Willis, Blake Stimson, Kelley Wilder, Sally Stein, and other leading scholars. Sheehan’s talk, “Color Matters: Rethinking Photography and Race,” is derived from her current research on racial thinking in contemporary art photography and the historiography of photography.
