Sperling’s AR244 Moving Images: Magic Lanterns to Virtual Reality course featured on Colby’s Instagram
Colby featured Juliet Sperling’s course “Moving Images: Magic Lanterns to Virtual Reality” on instagram. The class visited Special Collections in Miller Library to explore and analyze examples of movable books across different genres and time periods. Movable books are a literacy toy where reading words and looking at pictures becomes a game. Using examples on loan from Bowdoin and from Colby’s own collection, the class came to a better understanding of how a movable book’s mechanism of movement shapes an object’s meaning and message.
