WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Patrick Stewart (Bangor/Bangor, Maine) is the latest Mule to earn the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Division Rookie of the Week honor for the week ending Jan. 20.
Stewart is the third Colby player to earn the weekly honor and the Mules have had the MMBCWA Rookie of the Week four times. Chris Hudnut has been honored twice and Luke Westman once.
Stewart averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, shot 64 percent (14-for-22) from the field, 75 percent (3-for-4) from 3-point range, and committed no turnovers in a 1-1 week. He was 8-for-11 from the field and had 18 points and six rebounds in a victory over Trinity College. Stewart added 13 points and eight rebounds against then 16th-ranked Amherst College.
Stewart currently leads the Mules in rebounding (7.1, 107 total), offensive rebounds (38), defensive rebounds (69), blocked shots (tied with 11), and minutes played (26.7). He is averaging 7.1 points and is shooting 48 percent (43-for-90) from the field.
Colby, with three sophomores and two first-year players as starters, is 6-10 overall heading into Thursday's 7 p.m. home game with Husson University.
