Women's basketball drops league game to Ephs

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Giving up size at nearly every position, the Colby College women's basketball team fell 60-42 to Williams College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.

Claire Baecher (Brunswick, Maine), a 6-foot-3 forward,  finished with a double-double at 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Ephs. 
 
Williams heads to Bowdoin College for a 4 p.m. game Saturday with a 17-4 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the league. Colby, which will host Middlebury College on Saturday at 4 p.m., drops to 7-13 overall and 1-6 in the league.

Jennie Harding (Santa Monica, Calif.) added 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting, while Kellie Macdonald (Danvers, Mass.) had 10 points. Grace Rehnquist (Sharon, Mass.) dished a game-high five assists and had seven points for the Ephs.

Jen Nale (Waterville, Maine) led Colby with 10 points and made both of her 3-point attempts. Brooke Chandor (Barrington, Ill.) added eight points, five rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots. Carylanne Wolfington (Hallowell, Maine) also had eight points and was 4-for-4 from the foul line.
 
The Ephs held Colby to just 26 percent shooting from the field and had a 44-30 rebounding advantage.

The game was tight for the opening seven minutes, but Williams gradually pulled away and led 33-18 at halftime. The Ephs led by as much as 26 points in the second half at 51-25 with 10:44 to play and again by 26 points at 58-32 with 3:20 to go.
