Women's basketball earns win against Husson

BANGOR, Maine --- Desi Smith hit nine of her 10 free throws and scored a team-high 13 points as the Colby College women's basketball team fought back from a second-half deficit to take a 59-48 non-conference win over Husson University on Tuesday night.

 
Colby moves to 8-14 overall heading into the final two regular season games of the season. The Mules play at Connecticut College on Friday at 8 p.m. and then travel to Wesleyan University for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
 
The Mules held a 31-23 halftime margin, but Husson came out strong in the second half behind Stephanie Comstock to take a 36-32 lead (13-1 run) with 14:17 to play. Comstrock scored 10 of her game-high 24 points in the run.

Husson led 42-41 with 9:02 to play, but the Mules received a jumper from Smith with 8:18 left to take the lead for good. Colby used a 12-2 run to take a 53-44 lead with 3:24 to play. Diana Manduca had six points, one assist, and one steal during the run.
 
Carylanne Wolfington added 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting and five rebounds for the Mules, while Manduca also had 11 points, three steals, and three assists. Jayde Bennett had her best game of the season with six points on 3-for-5 shooting, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 

Colby held Husson (7-12) to just 34 percent shooting and an 0-for-9 effort from 3-point range.
