Big third period lifts women's hockey to victory

GORHAM, Maine --- The Colby College women's hockey team scored three goals in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and take a 4-2 victory over University of Southern Maine in non-conference play Tuesday night at the USM Ice Arena.

 
The teams headed into the third period with the Huskies up 2-1. Megan Fortier scored the game-tying goal on an unassisted tally just 1:54 into play for her fourth of the season.
 
Annie Papadellis scored her team-leading eighth goal of the year and the game-winning score for Colby on the power play at 5:31. Lauren Guarente and Samantha Slotnick had assists on the goal.
 
The Mules went 2-for-6 on the power play after Slotnick scored with just 4:09 left in regulation for a 4-2 margin. 
 
Colby took a 1-0 lead when Katie Tang scored at 2:49 of the second period from Maddy Borek and Ally Kane. 
 
The Huskies battled back to take the lead with two goals over the next five minutes. Maggie Lane scored on the power play at 3:53 and Katie Davis made it 2-1 at 7:25.
 
Colby goalie Brianne Wheeler made 13 saves, while USM keeper Jenn Fuller had 19 stops.
