Women's lacrosse ranked fifth in preseason poll

WATERVILLE, Maine --- After three straight appearances in the national quarterfinals, the Colby College women's lacrosse team will start the 2013 season ranked fifth in the country in theLacrosse MagazineNCAA Division III preseason rankings.

Colby, under sixth-year head coach Karen MacCrate Henning, ended the 2012 season ranked seventh nationally in the final Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. 
The Mules return most of their players from last year's 15-3 team. Colby two-time All-American Kate Pistel and defender Lisa Hoopes will be co-captains this season.
Trinity College, which won the national title last year, is ranked first in the preseason poll. The Bantams held on for a 7-5 win over Colby in an NCAA quarterfinal game last year. Middlebury College (seventh), Amherst College (eighth), Hamilton College (ninth), Bowdoin College (11th), and Tufts University (16th) are other schools ranked from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
