On Wednesday November 16th President Barack Obama named 21 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. According to the whitehouse.gov press release, “The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. The awards will be presented at the White House on November 22nd.” The event will be livestreamed atwww.whitehouse.gov/live.
Maya Lin, one of the recipients, is an artist and designer who is known for her work in sculpture and landscape art. She designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. and since then has pursued a celebrated career in both art and architecture. Two of her works, Pin River: Kissimmee and Disappearing Bodies of Water: Arctic Ice are currently on display in the Colby Museum of Art!
