November, 2002
Dear Parent:
Plans are underway for the 182nd Commencement Exercises at Colby College. The celebration of the Class of 2003 will begin Friday, May 23, with a lobster bake for graduates and their families/guests. Among the other events being planned for the weekend, on Saturday, May 24, a Baccalaureate service will be held, followed by a picnic lunch, the President's reception, commencement banquet and an evening semi-formal ball. Commencement is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, followed by a graduate luncheon.
At this time, your son/daughter is on the provisional list of students scheduled to graduate in May. Official standing will be confirmed once s/he completes all of the College graduation requirements.
Since many students will be visiting families over the winter holidays, I thought it might be helpful to remind you to begin planning for Commencement weekend. While Colby does not endorse any particular area hotel or motel, I have enclosed a list of area accommodations. Additional listings can be found in the Colby College Parents Handbook or at www.colby.edu/parents/handbook/index.html. We encourage you to make lodging arrangements as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Unfortunately, no guest housing is available on campus.
In the spring of 2003, you will receive the final schedule of Commencement weekend events with exact times and locations, along with information about meals available on campus. If you have questions or concerns before that time, please feel free to contact my office at
207-872-3192 or e-mail krledger@colby.edu
My best wishes for a happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Karen Farrar Ledger
