ES Program Hires Faculty Fellow in Environmental Studies

Bill McDowell grew up in New Hampshire and earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Williams College. While at Williams, Bill attended the Williams Mystic program where Dr. Jim Carlton first got him interested in understanding the impacts of invasive species. After graduating from Williams, Bill moved to California where he worked as a technician at UC Berkeley and later as an environmental consultant at Stillwater Sciences, working in streams and rivers across California. For his PhD, Bill studied with Dr. Jeb Byers at the University of Georgia studying the impacts of an abundant, invasive freshwater clam, Corbicula fluminea. Bill is excited to be returning to New England and the liberal arts environment. His research interests include invasive species, quantitative ecology, and utilizing existing large datasets.

Bill will be teaching Introduction to Ecology and Advanced and Applied Ecology, as well as acting as part of the team teaching Environment and Society.
