2014 Oak Human Rights Fellow Clare Byarugaba
Once known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda gained international notoriety in 2009 when its Parliament took up a "kill the gays" bill. Homophobia there is not just violent; it now is institutionalized. What caused this harsh attack on a relatively small minority in Uganda? And what are activists doing to defend or liberate the LGBT community in the face of overwhelming odds? Clare Byarugaba, our 2014 Oak Fellow, will address these questions.
