We would like to invite faculty, staff, students and the Farnham Writers' Center tutors to participate in the "Frederick Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon" to help transcribe one-of-a-kind documents from the Freedmen's Bureau Papers archive. The National Museum of African American History & Culture, the Smithsonian Transcription Center, and the Colored Conventions Project are organizing this event in celebration of Douglass's 200th birthday and as part of Black History Month. Colleges, libraries, and community organizations across the country are participating. The Transcription Center is a platform where digital volunteers can transcribe and review transcriptions of Smithsonian collections. The Freedmen's Bureau Transcription Project is the largest crowdsourcing initiative ever sponsored by the Smithsonian. For more details on the transcribe-a-thon, see: http://coloredconventions.org/hbd.
