Friends of Athletics exists to build community around Colby’s athletics programs and each of its teams and to help provide the best possible experience for our students. Through a gift designated to Colby Athletics or to a specific friends group, you can help provide resources that will enable teams to offer the best possible experience for our students and to compete at the highest level. Contributions will enhance, not replace, approved annual budgets and will be used for supplemental items such as equipment, training, and travel—crucial elements of a competitive athletic program.

Friends of Athletics groups, launched in fall 2015, were formed to support Colby’s teams and the Department of Athletics. They build on the existing community around our teams and help provide the extras that can make the experience most powerful for students.

Friends groups consist of alumni and alumnae, parents and families, and members of the community who support Colby and its athletic programs. Groups combine men’s and women’s programs in a particular sport. There is no fee to join; all that’s required is an enthusiasm for Colby and a desire to support particular teams or the overall program.

Alumni chairs help run each group in conjunction with head coaches and the director of athletics. They develop annual plans for social events, communication, and fundraising, with the goals of improving the experience of Colby’s athletes and the competitiveness of our programs. Fundraising by friends groups is for enhancements; it does not replace funding by the Department of Athletics.
