Colby Climbs in Greenest College Ratings
This summer Best Colleges.com and the Sierra Club released their “Greenest Colleges” and “Cool Schools” rankings, respectively. According to Best Colleges.com Colby ranks third overall and first among NESCAC institutions. Sierra Club ranked Colby 19th among all institutions in their list. This marks the first time Colby has cracked the top 20 of the Sierra Club Cool Schools ranking. Both rankings are heavily based on the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking and Assessment Rating System (STARS) scores and the strength of the College’s Environmental Studies Program.
Colby updated its STARS submission to account for recent sustainability-related achievements including the completion of the biomass heating plant, the establishment of its Office of Sustainability, and carbon neutrality announcement. More information on the STARS rating system and Colby’s process can be found here.
This recognition affirms and reflects Colby’s commitment and effort to institutionalize sustainability and environmental education. Visit the Best Colleges’ website here and Sierra Club Cool Schools here.
