RecycleMania 2015 Is On
RecycleMania 2015 is on! Colby EcoReps and the Office of Sustainability will spend February and March working to increase recycling on campus and to divert as much waste as possible from landfills as part of the national recycling competition among higher education institutions.
Colby has made several changes to its recycling program just in the past year, and we are working to make it even better and more streamlined. In a portionĀ of the Roberts Row dorms, there are now plastics recycling bins in each recycling station. We also installed new, easier-to-use waste stations to Pulver and the Spa, which has greatly improved recycling rates. The EcoReps are also trying to increase composting across campus to prevent food waste from being included in our garbage.
In the coming months, we will also be adding a plastics bin to each bathroom, first in all of the Bobs Row dorms. Based on data collected by the EcoReps, most of the plastic waste in the residence halls are generated in the bathrooms. If these changes go well, we will discuss extending these changes across campus.
Throughout the next few weeks, we will share the results of the Recyclemania competition on Green Colby. Stay tuned for our progress and for a Zero Waste Challenge in April!
