Halloran Lab Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
We are excited to announce our Halloran Lab certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
How does it work?
All of our co-curricular workshops and hackathons, treks, Jan Plan courses, and full semester courses will be assigned between 1 and 5 Halloran Lab Points, depending on duration and pre and post-work requirements.
Points will only be awarded to students who attend the workshops, with some workshops having only in-person attendance available and others having both in-person and asynchronous attendance as options.
Although we firmly believe in learning by doing, we do believe our programming is of significant value, and we wan’t to encourage and incentivize participation. Video programming with asynchronous attendance options will be posted on our Moodle Certification course page. We will also post required worksheets, which when completed and submitted will secure, Halloran Points for those students abroad or with conflicts who couldn’t attend in person.
How many points do you need to earn a certification?
Certification will require the accumulation of 25 points as well as the application for our Campagna-Sennett Iterate and Expand Grant. We see that grant application as a capstone project and the opportunity to put what you’ve learned from attending our programming into action!
Do you need to accrue all 25 points in one academic year?
No. Points can be accrued across your 4 years at Colby.
Will Halloran Lab Points have value in any other ways?
Yes. Halloran Lab points are also a prerequisite for both our Ideate and Explore and our Campagna-Sennett Iterate and Expand applications, requiring 5 and 15 points respectively.
Will this certification be on your transcript?
The short answer is no. It won’t be on your transcript. But like most early ventures working to build a brand, the certificate means what you students make it mean. Your future successes give it value.
When students with this certificate go on to work at the best companies in the world, innovating as intrapraneurs, leading their teams to success, it gains meaning. When students with this certificate start nonprofits or social enterprises that positively impact a person, a community, a region, country, or even the world, it gains meaning. When students with this certificate become renowned scientists, and discover and apply breakthrough technologies to create new pharmaceuticals or medical devices, it gains meaning.
