Alan Taylor ’77 Wins Pulitzer Prize for History
The History Department is pleased to announce that alumnus Alan Taylor ’77 has won the Pulitzer Prize for History for his book The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1772-1832. The Pulitzer Prize Board described it as “a meticulous and insightful account of why runaway slaves in the colonial era were drawn to the British side as potential liberators.” In August 2014, Taylor will become the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation Chair of the Corcoran Department of History, University of Virginia.
