On Tuesday November 29th from 7-8pm in the Bobby Silberman Lounge (formerly LoPo) in the Cotter Union Professor John Turner will talk about “Why is Mosul Part of Iraq? Sykes-Picot 100 Years on.”

100 years ago, in the heat of WWI, a British and a French diplomat sat down to draw up a map of how they were going to divide up the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWI. Their map set the stage for drawing up the current borders for much of the Middle East, but Mosul was originally supposed to be part of Syria….
