David Benn, Library Assistant, Collection Management

Most of my work is at the Storage Facility. However, I assist at Miller whenever needed, especially when students are not here. At storage the students and I continue to organize the facility for easier and more efficient retrieval of books for delivery to patrons. At Miller I sometimes deliver books on campus or help in whatever Collections Management jobs that I am can.

1. Describe yourself in 3 words.

active, lifelong learner, team player

2. What do you value most about your work?

I like working with the students and the rest of the Collections Management Team. I feel great being part of a team of people who are ready to jump in whenever there is a need. I value my coworkers. I like setting goals each day at the Storage Facility and accomplishing them.

3. When not at work, what three activities do you enjoy the most?

I run 3 or 4 times a week and swim the other days. I also enjoy reading and working outside.

4. What are your reading/watching/listening to?

I am reading Revival by Adam Hamilton, a book about John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, Personal by Lee Child, and will read Still Alice next. I also read Sports Illustrated magazine. I don’t watch much TV, but 60 Minutes is one I watch regularly. I like listening to both popular music and oldies. I enjoy all kinds of music.

5. In your own words…

I am working on consolidating a large collection of books from the Bangor Theological Seminary with the help of students. While doing this we are shifting books so that they are not higher than 8 shelves for ease in retrieval and also for anyone who comes to the facility to browse. I want Storage to be user friendly and I believe that it will be when we finish the shift.
